You don’t often think of a yoga teacher as a marketing mastermind, but in actuality we are marketing ourselves daily with each class, each conversation and even our posts. Being entrepreneurs and business owners we not only need to design soulful classes and workshops, but a business, brand and online presence to go along with them. It’s one thing to create a great class, it’s a whole other thing entirely to fill that class with students who need what you have to offer. Utilizing social media is a wonderful way to grow your tribe, spread your message and fill those fabulous classes.
One of the most important things that you do each time you log into your Instagram or Facebook account is place yourself in a position to create genuine connections, just as we do with our students in our classes. Creating connections online definitely takes a bit of time, energy and love, but is a simple and effective way to start creating a community who hear your call. When you’re looking to get started in the online marketing world, regardless of the platform you should allocate a small amount of time each day engaging with your audience, and “meeting” new people. Think of businesses and yogis you admire, popular hashtags that appeal to your business and brand and spend a little time digging around and reaching out to anyone who captures your attention. A simple comment and hello can go a long way.
You also want to ensure that as you’re going about your posts that you’re respecting and jumping on the engagement that’s being created with your content. Be on top of commenters, questions and always take the time to reciprocate the love shared with you.
In the sea of social media profiles, yogis and savvy business marketers how do you stand out from the crowd and draw in those who are dying to hear your message? The key is to be 100% Authentically you. There is no one else on this earth who is exactly like you, and trust me, people can smell a fake from a mile a way. So just as you’d want your students to show up in your class as they are, you want to ensure that you’re doing the same both in the from of the room when you’re teaching, and whenever you show up and represent yourself online. Social media has become such a powerful tool because it’s allowing us to create meaningful connections globally and find our tribe. Be you and your audience will find you.
With each post, tweet and pin, we should be looking for ways to enrich the lives of our audience. We need to give them a reason to connect, follow and stay in touch and the best way to do that is by offering them something that gives them value. This can be in the form of daily inspiration or motivation, sharing your favourite recipes or meal ideas, or maybe even breaking down some yoga poses or offering a fun challenge to your audience. Whatever you decide, be sure you have fun and area always offering great content amidst your class schedule posts and workshop blasts.
Online marketing doesn’t have to be hard, and can be the missing link between empty classes and sold out workshops.
